MAKOplasty®

MAKOplasty® Partial Knee Resurfacing offers new treatment options for those living with painful early to mid-stage osteoarthritis of the knee, affecting only one or two components of the knee, and who prefer a less invasive surgery and more rapid recovery than total knee arthroplasty.

Brooksville Regional Hospital is the only hospital in Hernando, West Pasco and Citrus counties offering this advanced surgical option.

Powered by the RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System, MAKOplasty offers surgeons consistently reproducible precision in performing partial knee resurfacing.

The entire procedure only requires a four to six inch incision over the knee. Tactile, intelligent robotic arm technology and three-dimensional visualization of the knee guides the surgeon in controlled resurfacing of the pre-defined area, saving as much of the patient’s healthy bone and surrounding tissue as possible.

Using CT scan data, the surgeon follows a three dimensional computer model of the patient’s pre-surgical plan. During the procedure, real-time visual, tactile and auditory feedback facilitates ideal implant positioning and placement.

It is this level of planning and surgical accuracy in treating earlier stage knee osteoarthritis that can result in a more natural feeling knee and motion.

MAKOplasty partial knee resurfacing can be performed on an outpatient basis. It promotes rapid relief from pain, and in many cases, patients are permitted to walk soon after surgery, drive a car within two weeks and return to normal daily activities shortly thereafter.

da Vinci® Surgical System

The da Vinci® Surgical System provides your surgeon with tremendous surgical accuracy utilizing high-definition 3D vision and a magnified operating view. Your doctor controls the da Vinci® System, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body. Though it is often called a “robot,” da Vinci® cannot act on its own: The surgery is performed entirely by your doctor.

Together, da Vinci® technology allows your doctor to perform complex procedures through just a few tiny openings. As a result patients are often able to get back to their daily routines faster — without the usual recovery for traditional surgeries.

Additional patient benefits may include:

  • Shortened hospital stay, or outpatient surgery
  • Less post-surgical pain
  • Minimal blood loss
  • Less scaring
  • Faster healing time

To date, the da Vinci® System has been used successfully worldwide in hundreds of thousands of procedures.

Brooksville Regional Hospital was the first to deliver da Vinci Si Robotic Technology to Hernando County. This addition compliments Brooksville Regional Hospital's goal to stay on the cutting edge of technological advancements and extends minimally invasive surgery to the broadest possible base of patients. The da Vinci® System can be used for a multitude of procedures, including, but not limited to:

  • Gallbladder removal
  • Appendectomy
  • Hernia repair
  • Colon resection
  • Cystectomy
  • Prostatectomy
  • Colorectal surgery
  • Laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH)
  • Lobectomy
  • Oophoroectomy (ovary removal)

Single-Site - Facing Gallbladder Surgery?

Learn why Single-Site™ da Vinci® Surgery may be your best option for virtually scarless results.

Treatment for gallbladder disease may include lifestyle changes, medicines and procedures. However, when routine medical care does not ease your symptoms, surgery may be needed. Depending on how severe your symptoms are, your doctor may need to remove your gallbladder. This operation is known as a cholecystectomy.

Gallbladder surgery is generally performed using manual laparoscopy with four small incisions. However, at Brooksville Regional, General Surgeon, Steven Visnaw is performing gallbladder removal through one incision to virtually eliminate scarring.

If you have been told you need gallbladder surgery, ask your doctor about Single-Site da Vinci surgery. This procedure is performed through a single incision in your belly button using the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System. Patients who choose Single-Site technology at Brooksville Regional experience a virtually scarless procedure since surgery is performed through only one incision in the belly button, which dramatically limits visible scarring.

Chronic Pain, Heavy Bleeding, Fibroids, Endometriosis, Prolapse

A wide variety of benign (non-cancerous) conditions can affect a woman’s reproductive system which consists of the uterus, vagina, ovaries, and fallopian tubes.

Benign gynecologic conditions like fibroids (growths in and/or around the uterus), endometriosis (uterine lining growing outside the uterus) or pelvic prolapse (slipping of the uterus, vagina and/or bladder) can cause chronic pain, heavy bleeding and other mild to severe symptoms. Women who experience severe symptoms are often treated with hysterectomy.

The da Vinci Surgical System is designed to provide your doctor with enhanced capabilities, including high-definition 3D vision and a magnified view. Though it is often called a “robot”, da Vinci cannot act on its own. The surgery is performed entirely by your doctor. He or she controls the da Vinci system, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body.
