We also understand that no one wants to wait in an emergency situation. We have provided the information below to help you understand how emergency treatment is given and the order in which it is administered. We hope this will make your ER visit less anxious and confusing. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask a member of our staff for assistance.
Upon Arrival
Please give your name to the admissions specialist who will then direct you to the triage nurse. The triage nurse is a registered nurse who determines the severity of your illness or injury. The triage nurse will assess your condition.
An admissions specialist will speak with you to get information for your medical record. It will speed up the registration process if you have your insurance card and driver's license for identification.
When a room is prepared for you, a member of our nursing staff will accompany you to your room and assist you in preparing to see the doctor. Our nursing staff consists of registered nurses and emergency care technicians who have received specialized education and experience in caring for emergencies. Our emergency care physicians are board certified and licensed by the State of Florida and specialize in the area of Emergency Medicine. This means they have extensive study in the treatment of traumas, medical emergencies and the emergency care of children.
Once you have been examined by the emergency room physician, there are additional "time-consumers" to consider: Laboratory work and other tests take time to be processed and evaluated. X-rays must be developed and read by a physician. Following treatment, you may be detained so the staff can observe the effectiveness of treatment. Consulting physicians most often respond to the emergency department from their private offices outside the hospital. If the decision is made to admit you, additional paperwork and time is needed to help the hospital unit prepare a room especially for you. Once your test results are back, your emergency room physician will review and discuss the results with you. Your physician will go over how your illness or injury should be treated.
Before You Leave The Hospital
Before you are discharged, your nurse will return to review your discharge instructions, give you prescriptions, if needed, and answer your questions. You will be asked to sign your chart to indicate that you understand your discharge instructions. No question is too silly to ask. Your healthcare is too important to worry about being embarrassed if you do not understand something your doctor, nurse or other healthcare professional tells you. Please ask them to explain again if you do not understand. You will also be given the name of a staff physician to see by appointment if your diagnosis requires a follow-up visit. Once you have received this information and have no further questions, you are ready to go home. Thank you for choosing Brooksville Regional Hospital during your time of need. It is a privilege to provide quality care to you and your family.
